Blackboard Beyond Initiative
WASHINGTON —March 10, 2006—Blackboard Inc. has announced Blackboard Beyond, a four-project initiative that the company will launch in collaboration with clients.
The initiative involves the creation of networked learning environments—a series of Web properties that connect the institutions, faculty, and students who use Blackboard across education segments and disciplines. The sites will be shaped and run by Blackboard's client community and developed by Blackboard.
The company said the four projects include the following:
- Extending the platform: Creating a more tailored platform through specialized software extensions developed by and for educators, as well as with interactive digital resources. As part of the initiative, Blackboard said it plans to establish a global learning objects catalog.
- Facilitating social networking: The Scholar.com Web service is meant to connect students and faculties across disciplines and across institutions.
- Enabling lifelong learning: Blackboard announced a service that lets users post their portfolios to a central site for long-term use.
- Creating network learning environments: This collaborative data warehouse service allows clients to anonymously share relevant data and gain insight into best practices.
