Stanford Adopts Centra Live

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif.—May 8, 2006—Saba has announced that The Education Program for Gifted Youth (EPGY) Online High School at Stanford University will utilize Saba’s Centra Live for Virtual Classes software to deliver live, instructor-led classes to the desktops of geographically dispersed students.

According to a Saba announcement, Centra’s virtual classes and content management capabilities enable academic organizations to use the Internet to offer interactive, online classes and degree programs that draw students unable to attend classes on campus due to professional or geographic constraints.

“Not only does [Centra Live] make the online experience more compelling for students, it also allows us to easily broaden our curriculum,” said Ray Ravaglia, deputy director, EPGY, Stanford University, in the announcement. Developed by Stanford University’s Education Program for Gifted Youth, the online high school is a three-year, fully accredited, diploma-granting learning institution. According to EPGY, it has offered online courses to more than 50,000 students since its inception in 1990.
