Companies Aim to Deliver BI Through Enterprise Search

OSLO, Norway, and Burlington, Mass.—May 15, 2006—Fast Search & Transfer has partnered with Cognos to integrate the Enterprise Search Platform with Cognos 8 Business Intelligence, the companies have announced.

“Popular e-commerce and community Web sites are changing the user expectations for software to support access to any and all information, interactivity, collaboration, and workflow,” said Dan Vesset, research director for business analytics at IDC. “Combining BI and enterprise search tools has the potential to not only improve and broaden access to information, but also to employ new analytic techniques on both structured and unstructured data in support of decision-making processes.”

In a joint announcement, the companies said that the integrated solution is intended to enable users to quickly and easily find reports, analyses, scorecards, dashboards, and other business intelligence information, as well as such corporate content as documents, email, and other forms of structured and unstructured business information distributed across an enterprise. In addition, with a feature called Contextual Insight, the product reportedly can analyze and interpret the underlying meaning behind reports, providing users with vinsight into business performance.
