Surveys Reveal Insight on Employee Retention

PHILADELPHIA—June 16, 2006—Two recent surveys from Business 21 Publishing have found that although HR executives indicate that employee retention is a hot-button issue, they’re not confident that they’re doing what it takes to retain their valued employees, according to an announcement highlighting the surveys’ findings.

In the first survey, 78% of respondents said retention was at or near the top of their priority list and 5% said it wasn’t. However, the second survey suggests that only 20% of companies are taking proactive measures to ensure that their best people stick around, the announcement stated.

In the announcement, B21 cited “The Retention Dilemma,” an article published by Hay Group that stated that people stay at companies because they believe they’re using their skills and abilities to their fullest potential, and because they believe in top management. Higher pay reportedly was near the bottom of the list of things that make people stay in their jobs. The announcement added that B21 will conduct a 90-minute audio conference on employee retention on Thursday, June 22.
