Kognitio/IBM Solution Provides Platform for Data Analytics

MARLOW, U.K.—July 7, 2006—Kognitio has announced the conclusion of a benchmark study of its WX2 analytical database on IBM BladeCenter System X servers. According to the announcement, Kognitio installed the hardware-agnostic WX2 onto 28 such servers running Linux and conducted performance tests using various blade configurations. Then it reportedly ran an industry-standard benchmark on a dataset encompassing 1.3 billion telco records using a suite of 15 queries, including onerous “count distinct” operations.

According to the announcement, Kognitio received results in less than one minute. Furthermore, without any specialized tuning of the database or summarization of the data, scan speeds were in excess of 200 million rows of data per second, per blade node. Overall performance reportedly was approximately 2.5 times better than the best test results published to date.

“What we have demonstrated is that Kognitio WX2, when used in parallel with IBM BladeCenter System X blade servers, can provide a best-in-class analytical platform without the need for expensive proprietary hardware or armies of DBAs to set up and maintain the database,” said Roger Llewellyn, Kognitio’s managing director, in the announcement. “What we are achieving is the ability to disconnect the analytical requirements of a business from the bottlenecks of IT and standard relational databases that require months to set up and maintain.”

As a result of the study, IBM and Kognitio plan to run targeted seminars about the business benefits of the solution on July 12 and 13 at IBM’s South Bank offices in London, the announcement said.
