Government Solutions Address Government Human Capital Challenges

WASHINGTON—July 10, 2006—Harvard Business School Publishing (HBSP) has launched its government solutions practice, which has created management and leadership development solutions intended to address human capital challenges specific to the government sector.

“With the demands of performance mandates, the looming labor shortage, and retirement on the rise, leadership development programs are more critical than ever to help government organizations meet the challenges ahead,” said Scott Imperatore, assistant director, in an announcement. “Our solutions were designed to develop the competencies and qualities identified by government leaders as critical for success in a performance-driven culture.”

The government solutions practice reportedly draws from various leadership and management development resources, including online tools and programs, Harvard Business Review articles, HBS Press books, speaker forums with leading authors, and implementation and facilitation services. According to the announcement, the practice focuses on performance management, succession planning, leadership transitions, and talent and workforce development.

“In an environment that mandates high performance, we continually look for ways to develop a motivated and agile workforce,” said Frank Anderson, president, Defense Acquisition University, which reportedly has been working with the government solutions practice. “Harvard Business School Publishing provided us with leadership and management resources that lined up with many of the performance gaps we had identified and [that] complemented our existing courses. It has been a highly cost-effective and efficient solution for the defense acquisition, technology, and logistics workforce.”

In addition to the Defense Acquisition University, the government solutions practice also reportedly works with such government entities as the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, Defense Commissary Agency, and Department of Agriculture.
