Training Program for Combat-Wounded and Disabled Vets

WASHINGTON—July 27, 2006—The Military Order of the Purple Heart Service Foundation has announced the Veteran Business Training Center, which reportedly uses the Internet and Web-based technology to provide online job training and placement to disabled and combat-wounded veterans. According to the announcement, the goal is to recruit and train qualified veterans in high-demand information technology careers that will offer long-term job placement.

Accredited by Northern Virginia Community College, the training reportedly consists of 600 hours (eight hours per day, five days per week, for a total of 15 weeks), during which trainees attend virtual classroom discussions and accrue real-time work experience. At the completion of the program each veteran is certified by the Veterans Business Training Center.

According to the announcement, Mortgage Investors Corp. (MIC) is the first private company to sponsor the center, and intends to hire the center’s graduates. “Since 1993, 100% of our business is providing home loans to veterans, and now we are happy to offer more jobs to veterans, especially those that face severe challenges transitioning back to civilian life,” said combat-disabled marine and chairman of MIC, Bill Edwards, in the announcement.
